Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is an evidence-based psychological therapy recommended for the treatment of trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder for people of all ages. It focuses on supporting the mind to heal itself naturally in the same way as the body does and echoes the natural coping that occurs during sleep, particularly during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Therapists have also successfully used EMDR as a treatment component in the management of depression, anxiety, panic attacks, grief, pain disorders, eating disorders, sexual or physical abuse, performance anxiety, stress reduction, disturbing memories, and phobias.
EMDR therapy allows you to recall, process, and move past unpleasant memories. Rather than avoid the past altogether, EMDR helps you to properly “digest” your memories so they’re no longer disturbing to you. Unlike other treatments that focus on altering the emotions, thoughts and responses resulting from traumatic experiences, EMDR therapy focuses directly on the memory itself. EMDR changes the way that memory is stored in the brain, thus reducing and eliminating the problematic symptoms. One of the many upsides of this form of therapy is that it is much less painful of a method than some.
The price of one hour counselling session is $150.
Thrive Counselling provides affordable, accessible therapy.
